Effective leadership is crucial to achieving extraordinary results with organizations.
This is not breaking news. Thousands of books and papers have been written about what makes a good (or great) leader. But leadership is tricky. Unless we are very careful, we wind up looking for the keys to leadership in the wrong places: in the personal characteristics or organizational standing of the leader.
The Putman Group focuses on developing extraordinary competence at leading. To do this requires some insights:
- Leading is not essentially about the "leader."
- Leading is not essentially about the "followers."
- Leading is essentially about a group of participants who together create value.
- Leading is the result of an intentional focus on making it possible for participants to make their contributions to the mutual endeavor. (You can find an in-depth discussion of these points here.)
We support competence development in two distinct but interrelated groups: leaders, and Leadership Coaches. To help you decide what next step (if any) you might like to take, you may find these Thought Pieces useful:
- Perspectives on Leading (the most extensive paper.)
